The popular school footwear brand was started in 1970 in France by Daniel Raufast. The young Frenchman set out to create the very first 'jean boot' - that is, a boot that suited the jean clothing that was very popular at the time. After working through some very innovative and original designs, the result was the very first Kickers boot.
The boot's unique features included contrasting triple stitching, engraved eyelets and the Kickers 'fleurette'. The shoes' distinct style helped the popularity of the brand and it became an immediate hit; within 5 years the shoes were being sold in over 65 countries worldwide.
During the 1980s the Kickers brand became very successful in the UK. They were the most popular school shoe in Britain by a long way - so much so that parents queued outside shoe stores with their children until late into the evening waiting for the Kickers shoe delivery.
In 1975 the first Kickers store opened in the UK along the glamorous King's Road in Chelsea, West London. The brand quickly found its way into the wardrobes of the rich and famous, including Roger Daltrey, Elton John and David Bowie, and before long the brand had found a rock 'n' roll image it was very proud of.
Since then, through the decades, Kickers shoes have been worn by all kinds of pop stars, including The Stone Roses, Noel Gallagher, Jarvis Cocker, Ms Dynamite, Kaiser Chiefs and The Arctic Monkeys.
